Suzanne Carter is a Melbourne-based textile designer and artist. With degrees in textile design, philosophy, and language teaching, she incorporates a love of language and wordplay with a technically-informed and playful approach to design. Her illustration work is influenced by an English sweet shop childhood steeped in comics, cartoons and video games and she draws inspiration from retro themes and elements of childhood delight. She is known for a fascination with the sugary, sparkly and saturated. 

 

"Sous la Mer' is a playful Spring/Summer collection for childrenswear inspired by ocean life. The handwritten French text adds a fun element, reminiscent of language learning materials for young children. Inspired by artists including Charles Schulz and Dick Bruna, the collection features charmingly expressive animal motifs in saturated colours. Digitally designed for digital print, these sweetly humorous designs are suited to lively playtimes for exuberant little humans.
